Research
We believe that professionally-planned interior environments have the power to positively influence human behavior. We strive to connect documented research in the fields of psychology, neurology, organizational behavior, and human behavior to the spaces we design. We accomplish our goal by begining every project with research – starting with InformeDesign, our favorite clearinghouse of research summaries.
Programming
We believe that listening to our clients to discern their needs is a critical step in the design process. In the jargon of designers, that imperative activity is called programming. We use a methodology that combines interviews, observations and good listening skills to determine the problems that we need to solve. Our approach is different than you might expect – we delve into research first. Then we present data and findings to our clients before we sketch one line on paper. Only after confirmation of findings and approval of a written program do we move to schematic design.
Collaboration
We believe that successful collaboration insures great projects. Using our understanding of group dynamics, we form high-performing teams with our clients, contractors, architects, landscape architects, engineers and other professionals, as each project requires. Knowing that all projects require different skills and expertise to meet the clients’ specific needs, we bring together the appropriate colleagues at the beginning of each project.
Service
We provide excellent design services and we believe in providing outstanding customer service to our clients, too. We build long-term relationships with many of our clients, designing and re-designing their spaces as their businesses grow and change.
Functionality
We believe that excellent design begins with functionality and that successful design can be fun. We call our work an “engineering of space.” We relish solving problems and creating organized, beautiful spaces. People spend 90% of their time indoors and we at Whited Planning + Design want to create indoor environments where people enjoy being.
