I have to say one of the best pieces on workspace I've read. Especially your telephone questions to Ms. Rimer was profound. It's the space between you and the things that surround you!! Thank you for the tips!

What a kick-and-a-half it was, Lisa, to read of you in today's NY Times! You've changed Sara Rimer's life! I hope you enjoyed the piece. You will probably be flooded with offers! Maybe one of them will be from me!

Write and tell me how you are doing otherwise -- and we'll catch up!

Fond regards,

Ed

I'm probably the 1000th person to ask: Do you ever get to NYC? Actually, I'm in Jersey City, a PATH subway train away from Manhattan. When you leave Manhattan through the Holland Tunnel, you emerge after going under the Hudson in Jersey City.

Yes, I'm also visually oriented, need to see things. Yes, I have a small space, 1/2 a room shared with my tidy husband, who is very patient.

If you don't come to NYC ever, can you recommend someone down here I could call? Of course I'm broke, and I'd love a lump-sum estimate rather than a per-hour charge. I'm a former writer (freelance, nonfiction, major magazines) now visual artist. Website not quite up yet, but soon will be.

Any help/direction you can give me would be wonderful. I'm similar in many ways to Sara Rimer, need things in plain sight.

Thanks in advance,

I love this floor - and I concur - I wish work environments had more color - my current environment has done a good job of wall colors in greens, yellows, and oranges - not too bright - but not dull grays - it is nice!

Max DePree's book, "Leadership Is An Art" is a classic. Some would also add that after saying "thank you," the leader needs to move on and allow a new leader to step in, thus sustaining an orgainzation and allowing new leaders to emerge.

Leadership Skills...

I like this quote from Max DePree about being a leader: The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you....

My favorite soil iron color is Munsell 5YR 5/8...they call it yellowish red, I call it orange, the color of lepidocrocite; a common iron mineral found in wet soils. So orange it is!
